Auto FAQs

I bought a new vehicle and I think it already has tint.
Privacy glass (sometimes called ‘factory tint’) is a special type of glass that has been darkened at the factory by an automotive company. Instead of using a window film, the glass itself is dyed with pigment. Privacy glass is normally applied on a car’s back windows, but does not provide the same protection that window tint does.
What is the difference between privacy glass and window tint?
Car window tinting is the process of applying window film to the inner side of the glass. This film will help reduce the amount of heat, UV rays and reduce the glare from direct sunlight. Privacy glass is glass that has been slightly darkened but does not provide heat protection like window tinting does.
Why do I see bubbled or purple tint on cars?
The tint is either very old or of poor quality. When this is accompanied by bubbles then the film used was a cheap brand. The bubbles are a result of a failure in the adhesive system causing the tint to literally lift from the glass. If our tint ever bubbles, we will replace it at no additional cost to you.
How long does it take to window tint installed on my car?
The process generally takes 1&1/2 – 3 hours depending on the difficulty of the car, cleanliness, and the number of windows. Window tinting is not a race, we take our time to offer quality installations. Our installers have a combined 20+ years of experience and offers the same quality of work to each customer.
Do window films provide extra protection if a window is broken?
Film applied to a window will help prevent the glass from shattering in the event of a broken window. This will limit injury and damage to people and property.
Will the tint damage my rear defroster?
No, it will not. We tint right over it and defrosters can be used without affecting the tint.
How do I clean my tinted windows?
Warm water and a soft cloth, never use a window cleaner unless it is specifically formulated for use on aftermarket tinted windows.
Why do I see little bubbles or patchiness soon after installation?
This is very normal. We use a lot of water to activate the adhesive and to allow us to move the film around and position it for a perfect installation. Although we squeegee out as much of the water as possible, some small amount remains between the glass and the film. As this water evaporates through the film you may see some little bubbles or foggy patches. These should go away within a few days or up to two weeks(during the colder months of the year.) Never poke, prod, or pop these bubbles, they will go away on their own.
Can window film ever be removed?
Yes, window film can be removed at any time after the installation. As tint professionals we know all the tips and tricks on proper tint removal. Please call us if you require a removal. It is a very tough and messy job.

RESIDENTIAL/COMMERCIAL FAQs

Will window tinting actually lower my energy bills?
Yes, window film blocks a significant portion of solar heat before it ever enters your home or building, which means your AC runs less to keep the same temperature. Most residential and commercial customers notice the difference within the first Houston summer.
Can you tint tempered, dual-pane, or energy-efficient windows?
In most cases, yes. We’ll assess your specific glass during your free walkthrough or consultation, since certain glass types (like some dual-pane or Low-E windows) require a specific film to avoid heat stress. We’ll always tell you upfront if your glass needs a different product.
Does window tinting void my window manufacturer's warranty?
It can, depending on the manufacturer, which is exactly why we check your window warranty terms with you before installing. The limited lifetime warranty covers the film itself regardless.
How long does a residential or commercial installation take?
A typical home takes about a day depending on window count. Commercial jobs vary by building size, but we can work floor-by-floor or after hours to avoid disrupting your business, we’ll give you a specific timeline during your walkthrough.
Do you work around our business hours for commercial jobs?
Yes. We regularly schedule commercial installs around occupied-building hours, working evenings, weekends, or floor-by-floor so your operations aren’t interrupted.
Can you handle a whole office building, multiple properties, or a fleet of company vehicles?
Yes, we work with property managers and business owners on everything from a single office to multi-building portfolios and company vehicle fleets, with one point of contact across all three of our locations.
Is window tinting safe for my windows, and will it affect visibility?
Yes. Window film is designed not to damage glass, it can even add shatter resistance, and it maintains clear visibility while cutting glare, so you keep your view.
How do I clean tinted windows at home or the office?
Mix a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent with distilled water, wipe gently with a soft, lint-free cloth, and dry with a clean cloth. Avoid abrasive materials or harsh window chemicals.
What warranty comes with residential and commercial film?
Residential – Lifetime limited warranty, Commercial – 10 year limited warranty, covers bubbling, peeling, delamination, discoloration, and adhesive failure.

PAINT PROTECTION FILM FAQS

What's the difference between auto tint and PPF?

Auto tint, often referred to as window tint, is a thin film applied to your vehicle’s windows to control heat, glare, and UV rays while enhancing privacy. In contrast, paint protection film (PPF) is a thicker, transparent film applied to the exterior surfaces of your vehicle, such as the front bumper, hood, and side mirrors, to protect the paint from scratches, chips, and other physical damage. While both provide protection, they serve different purposes – auto tint focuses on improving interior comfort and privacy, while PPF safeguards the vehicle’s exterior finish.

Should I handwash my vehicle after getting PPF installed?

It’s advisable to wait for about three days following the installation of PPF before attempting any washing. After this waiting period, we recommend handwashing as the safest method. However, if you prefer pressure washing, exercise caution around the film’s edges, as excessive pressure could potentially lift it. Additionally, be aware that touchless car washes using high water pressure and strong detergents may pose some risks to the PPF.

Can LLumar paint protection film be used on freshly repaired or repainted surfaces?

LLumar paint protection film is intended for application on original, factory-painted surfaces. Please note that any issues related to aftermarket or repaired paint are not covered by our warranty. However, if you still decide to apply paint protection film to a freshly painted vehicle, it’s typically recommended to wait for around 30 days to allow the new paint to properly outgas before installation.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO PAINT PROTECTION FILM INSTALLED ON MY CAR?

The process generally takes 1.5 – 3 hours depending on the difficulty of the car, cleanliness, and the number of windows. Paint protection film is not a race, we take our time to offer quality installations. Our installers have a combined 20+ years of experience and offer the same quality of work to each customer.

WHAT IS THE PAINT PROTECTION FILM WARRANTY?

Houston Tint Connection offers LLumar’s paint protection film with a limited lifetime nationwide warranty. This warranty typically covers defects in materials and workmanship for as long as you own your vehicle. For specific details and any limitations, please review the warranty documentation provided by LLumar or our authorized dealership.
